Code Ann. § 44-7-385","heading":"Requirements for serving as operating room circulator.","body":"(A) As used in this section, an \"operating room circulator\" means a registered nurse trained, educated, or experienced in perioperative nursing who is responsible for coordinating the nursing care and safety needs of a patient in the operating room and who also meets the needs of the operating room team members during surgery.\n(B) An operating room circulator in a health care facility must be a licensed registered nurse educated, trained, and experienced in perioperative nursing.\n(C) A surgical technologist may not serve as the circulator in the operating room of a health care facility; however, a person who is employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility may assist in the performance of circulating duties:\n(1) consistent with the person's education, training, and experience; and\n(2) as assigned and supervised by a registered nurse circulator who must be present in the operating room for the duration of the surgical procedure.","path":["Title 44 - HEALTH","CHAPTER 7 Hospitals, Tuberculosis Camps, and Health Services Districts","ARTICLE 3 State Health Facility Licensure Act"],"source_url":"https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t44c007.php","current_through":"2025 Session of the General Assembly","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T07:30:29Z","sha256":"439f94cd9c2e32365ed13c0426e9f11b0c5e2477d2fb9ff4e870db1d6ef20907","source_id":"us-sc","stale":false,"prev":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-44-7-380","next":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-44-7-390"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
