Code Ann. § 44-76-20","heading":"Definitions.","body":"For purposes of this chapter:\n(1) \"Automated external defibrillator\" or \"AED\" means an automated external defibrillator which is a medical device heart monitor and defibrillator that:\n(a) has received approval of its pre-market notification filed pursuant to the United States Code, Title 21, Section 360(k), from the United States Food and Drug Administration;\n(b) is capable of recognizing the presence or absence of ventricular fibrillation or rapid ventricular tachycardia and is capable of determining, without intervention by an operator, whether defibrillation should be performed; and\n(c) upon determining that defibrillation should be performed, automatically charges and requests delivery of an electrical impulse to an individual's heart.\n(2) \"Health care professional\" means a licensed physician, surgeon, physician's assistant, nurse practitioner, or nurse.\n(3) \"Designated AED user\" means a person identified by the person or entity acquiring an AED who has received training in the use of an AED pursuant to this chapter.","path":["Title 44 - HEALTH","CHAPTER 76 Automated External Defibrillators"],"source_url":"https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t44c076.php","current_through":"2025 Session of the General Assembly","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T07:34:39Z","sha256":"2a026b30711af458fde748b9d79c703997b6223cab09bb74d031c9dae737b07e","source_id":"us-sc","stale":false,"prev":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-44-76-10","next":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-44-76-30"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
