Code Ann. § 49-3-50","heading":"Matters to be considered by department in exercising responsibilities.","body":"In exercising its responsibilities under this chapter, the department shall take into consideration the need for:\n(1) adequate supplies of surface and groundwaters of suitable quality for all uses, including domestic, municipal, agricultural, and industrial;\n(2) water of suitable quality for all purposes;\n(3) water availability for recreational and commercial needs;\n(4) hydroelectric power;\n(5) flood damage control or prevention measures including zoning to protect people, property, and productive lands from flood losses;\n(6) land stabilization measures;\n(7) drainage measures, including salinity control;\n(8) watershed protection and management measures;\n(9) outdoor recreational and fish and wildlife opportunities;\n(10) studies on saltwater intrusion into groundwater and surface water;\n(11) measures to protect the state's fisheries and other aquatic resources;\n(12) any other means by which development of water and related land resources can contribute to economic growth and development, the long-term preservation of water resources, and the general well-being of all the people of the State.","path":["Title 49 - WATERS, WATER RESOURCES AND DRAINAGE","CHAPTER 3 Water Resources Planning and Coordination Act"],"source_url":"https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t49c003.php","current_through":"2025 Session of the General Assembly","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T07:45:34Z","sha256":"1f5c3079762360f959a9a4e4f2e85923baa5c415b8b16b9aac356a573983f2e2","source_id":"us-sc","stale":false,"prev":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-49-3-40","next":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-49-3-60"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
