Code Ann. § 5-7-260","heading":"Acts of municipal council which are required to be done by ordinance.","body":"In addition to other acts required by law to be done by ordinance, those acts of the municipal council shall be by ordinances which:\n(1) Adopt or amend an administrative code or establish, alter or abolish any municipal department, office or agency;\n(2) Provide for a fine or other penalty or establish a rule or regulation in which a fine or other penalty is imposed for violations;\n(3) Adopt budgets, levy taxes, except as otherwise provided with respect to the property tax levied by adoption of a budget, pursuant to public notice;\n(4) Grant, renew or extend franchises;\n(5) Authorize the borrowing of money;\n(6) Sell or lease or contract to sell or lease any lands of the municipality; and\n(7) Amend or repeal any ordinance described in items (1) through (6) above.\nIn matters other than those referred to in this section council may act either by ordinance or resolution.","path":["Title 5 - MUNICIPAL CORPORATIONS","CHAPTER 7 General Structure, Organization, Powers, Duties, Functions and Responsibilities of All Municipalities"],"source_url":"https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t05c007.php","current_through":"2025 Session of the General Assembly","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T06:22:39Z","sha256":"1e008d95b5beff60597ee705edeae324948b330dc72c1ee2c85323cbc5d77f12","source_id":"us-sc","stale":false,"prev":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-5-7-250","next":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-5-7-270"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
