Code Ann. § 50-11-440","heading":"Black bears; feeding or enticing with food; penalty.","body":"(A) It shall be unlawful for any person to feed or entice with food any black bear (Ursus americanus) except as follows:\n(1) those persons feeding bears maintained in protective captivity under a permit issued by the department for education, scientific, commercial, or recreational purposes;\n(2) department personnel;\n(3) persons licensed or otherwise authorized by the department; or\n(4) county or municipal animal personnel when relocating bears by baiting or enticement.\n(B) Any person violating the provisions of this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be fined in an amount not to exceed five hundred dollars or imprisoned for not more than thirty days.","path":["Title 50 - FISH, GAME AND WATERCRAFT","CHAPTER 11 Protection of Game","ARTICLE 3 Big Game"],"source_url":"https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t50c011.php","current_through":"2025 Session of the General Assembly","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T07:47:34Z","sha256":"c2cdcba55e9188116f32e53beeeaf6b0cd75fd016739014700e01de2b13b1a61","source_id":"us-sc","stale":false,"prev":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-50-11-435","next":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-50-11-450"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
