Code Ann. § 56-19-220","heading":"Exemption of certain vehicles.","body":"No certificate of title need be obtained for:\n(1) A vehicle owned by the United States unless it is registered in this State;\n(2) A vehicle owned by a manufacturer or dealer and held for sale, even though incidentally moved on the highway or used for purposes of testing or demonstration, or a vehicle used by the manufacturer solely for testing;\n(3) A vehicle owned by a nonresident of this State and not required by law to be registered in this State;\n(4) A vehicle regularly engaged in the interstate transportation of persons or property for which a currently effective certificate of title has been issued in another state;\n(5) A vehicle moved solely by animal power;\n(6) An implement of husbandry;\n(7) Special mobile equipment not required to be registered and licensed in this State;\n(8) A pole trailer;\n(9) A vehicle not required to be licensed and registered in this State, except mobile homes;\n(10) A vehicle used by its manufacturer in a benefit program for the manufacturer's employees;\n(11) A vehicle used by its manufacturer for testing, distribution, evaluation, and promotion, subject to the limitation in Section 56-3-2332(B)(2); or\n(12) A moped.","path":["Title 56 - MOTOR VEHICLES","CHAPTER 19 Protection of Titles to and Interests in Motor Vehicles","ARTICLE 3 Certificates of Title"],"source_url":"https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t56c019.php","current_through":"2025 Session of the General Assembly","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T07:53:19Z","sha256":"37f9d2ae06d128ae6813f6d49491b95f5a48c52e1f85ef7e0a194def3cce749d","source_id":"us-sc","stale":false,"prev":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-56-19-210","next":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-56-19-230"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
