Code Ann. § 56-5-3160","heading":"Pedestrians on highways.","body":"(a) Where a sidewalk is provided and its use is practicable, it shall be unlawful for any pedestrian to walk along and upon an adjacent roadway.\n(b) Where a sidewalk is not available any pedestrian walking along and upon a highway shall walk only on a shoulder as far as practicable from the edge of the roadway.\n(c) Where neither a sidewalk nor a shoulder is available, any pedestrian walking along and upon a highway shall walk as near as practicable to an outside edge of the roadway and, if on a two-way roadway, shall walk only on the left side of the roadway.\n(d) Except as otherwise provided in this chapter, any pedestrian upon a roadway shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles upon the roadway.","path":["Title 56 - MOTOR VEHICLES","CHAPTER 5 Uniform Act Regulating Traffic on Highways","ARTICLE 25 Pedestrians; Rights and Duties"],"source_url":"https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t56c005.php","current_through":"2025 Session of the General Assembly","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T07:52:34Z","sha256":"8bf15b7cb3d629c06c114f94868086506c4cd11f5c51de9362885f7af5df78c8","source_id":"us-sc","stale":false,"prev":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-56-5-3150","next":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-56-5-3170"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
