Code Ann. § 56-5-3500","heading":"Violations of article; penalties.","body":"(A) Except as otherwise provided, in the absence of another violation being cited, a violation of this article by the driver of a motor vehicle is subject to a civil fine of up to one hundred dollars unless a bicyclist is injured as a result of the violation.\n(B) In the absence of another violation being cited, a person driving a motor vehicle who violates a provision of this article and the violation is the proximate cause of a:\n(1) minor injury to a bicyclist, must be assessed a civil fine of up to five hundred dollars; or\n(2) great bodily injury, as defined in Section 56-5-2945, to a bicyclist, must be assessed a civil fine of not more than one thousand dollars.","path":["Title 56 - MOTOR VEHICLES","CHAPTER 5 Uniform Act Regulating Traffic on Highways","ARTICLE 27 Bicyclists and Users of Play Vehicles; Rights and Duties"],"source_url":"https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t56c005.php","current_through":"2025 Session of the General Assembly","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T07:52:34Z","sha256":"240fe0cdc2692dd3db612489873f8f6985667f14c8a6fc783fde90339b8f91d3","source_id":"us-sc","stale":false,"prev":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-56-5-3490","next":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-56-5-3515"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
