Code Ann. § 11-4-103","heading":"Chapter definitions","body":"As used in this chapter, unless the context otherwise requires:\n(1) \"Commission\" means the state forestry commission;\n(2) \"Commissioner\" means the commissioner of agriculture;\n(3) \"Department\" means the department of agriculture;\n(4) \"Division\" means the division of forestry within the department;\n(5) \"Forestry\" means the professional application of scientific principles in the management and use of forest land;\n(6) \"Forests\" means those lands currently occupied by trees of any size and species which may or may not have commercial value but are capable of providing multiple use benefits;\n(7) \"Multiple use\" means the management and use of forests such that a variety or mix of natural resource benefits are derived from that land. \"Multiple use\" includes, but is not limited to, a combination of timber production, demonstration, watershed protection, wildlife management, recreation, and aesthetics;\n(8) \"Protection\" means the application of such technology and services as may be necessary to minimize mortality and loss of growth occurring in forests as a result of wild fire, insects, disease, and other causal agents;\n(9) \"Reforestation\" means the artificial or natural regeneration of trees on bare land, eroded sites, or previously forested areas;\n(10) \"State forester\" means the director of the division of forestry;\n(11) \"State forests\" means those lands owned by the state and administered under the jurisdiction of the division, for the purpose of multiple use; and\n(12) \"Vendor services\" are contract services for a fee, provided by division personnel, and includes such assistance as tree planting, site preparation, and timber stand improvement.","path":["TN Code","Title 11","Chapter 4"],"source_url":"https://oss-data-us.vaquill.ai/v2026.08/us_tn_statutes.parquet","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:26Z","sha256":"578a2bee6f47604a5f6c7534d49814fde539fd67af1a0e77df765059002add5b","source_id":"us-tn","stale":false,"prev":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-11-4-102","next":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-11-4-201"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
