Code Ann. § 2-14-107","heading":"Special elections to fill vacancy in U.S. house of representatives or general assembly - Requirements and procedures","body":"(a) If it is necessary to hold a special election to fill a vacant seat in the United States house of representatives or the general assembly, the requirements of §§ 2-1-104 and 2-13-107 shall apply, except the petition must at a minimum bear the signatures of registered voters within the legislative district for which the special election has been called equal to at least two and one-half percent (2.5%) of the total number of votes cast within such legislative district for gubernatorial candidates in the most recent election for governor.\n(b) To be recognized as a minor party for purposes of a special primary or general election, a petition as described in subsection (a), must be filed no later than twelve o'clock (12:00) noon, prevailing time, on the appropriate qualifying deadline for such special primary in the office of the coordinator of elections.\n(c) Except as provided in this section, §§ 2-1-104 and 2-13-107 shall govern the process.","path":["TN Code","Title 2","Chapter 14"],"source_url":"https://oss-data-us.vaquill.ai/v2026.08/us_tn_statutes.parquet","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:26Z","sha256":"70b505de6a34ad97500100fd137126c244c47eea0ab7b7fac18800ebcc119a24","source_id":"us-tn","stale":false,"prev":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-2-14-106","next":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-2-14-201"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
