Code Ann. § 2-8-111","heading":"Tie votes","body":"If there is a tie vote between the two (2) or more persons having the highest number of votes for an office, the state election commission shall cast the deciding vote except that:\n(1) The county legislative body may cast the deciding vote for offices filled by the votes of a single county or civil district, or, in the alternative, the legislative body may by resolution call for a run-off election between the tied candidates;\n(2) The municipal legislative body shall cast the deciding vote for municipal offices, or, in the alternative, the legislative body may by resolution call for a run-off election between the tied candidates;\n(3) The governor shall cast the deciding vote for representatives in congress;\n(4) The election shall be void if it is for senator in congress, and the governor shall immediately issue an order directing the holding of a special election for the office; and\n(5) The general assembly in joint convention shall cast the deciding vote for governor.","path":["TN Code","Title 2","Chapter 8"],"source_url":"https://oss-data-us.vaquill.ai/v2026.08/us_tn_statutes.parquet","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:26Z","sha256":"bccbe8d018bdb04c0ed9c83dd3ebb481924b4be8746b7393c23c993e9202b609","source_id":"us-tn","stale":false,"prev":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-2-8-110","next":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-2-8-112"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
