Code Ann. § 21-1-701","heading":"Powers of clerk and master","body":"The clerk and master may, at the clerk and master's office:\n(1) Receive and enter on the rules the suggestion and proof of a party's death, and order and issue the necessary process to revive;\n(2) Make orders for publication against defendants in cases in which publication is allowed in lieu of personal service;\n(3) Take bills for confessed, and set aside the orders pro confesso, upon good cause shown and the filing of a sufficient answer;\n(4) Appoint guardians ad litem for infants, upon its being made to appear, by affidavit, that they have no general guardian;\n(5) Make orders for the taking of depositions, where those orders are necessary; and\n(6) Open causes for proof, on good cause shown, after they have been set for hearing, in the same way the chancellor might do.","path":["TN Code","Title 21","Chapter 1"],"source_url":"https://oss-data-us.vaquill.ai/v2026.08/us_tn_statutes.parquet","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:26Z","sha256":"31a4af8f9fedc3a64897ed1f6a76c59fa878503fb253d8f27f8c2ab96e184786","source_id":"us-tn","stale":false,"prev":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-21-1-602","next":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-21-1-702"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
