Code Ann. § 36-6-207","heading":"Native American children","body":"(a) A child-custody proceeding that pertains to an Indian child as defined in the Indian Child Welfare Act ( 25 U.S.C. § 1901 et seq.) is not subject to this part to the extent that it is governed by the Indian Child Welfare Act.\n(b) A court of this state shall treat a tribe as if it were a state of the United States for the purpose of applying parts 1 and 2 of this chapter.\n(c) A child-custody determination made by a tribe under factual circumstances in substantial conformity with the jurisdictional standards of this part must be recognized and enforced under part 3 of this chapter.","path":["TN Code","Title 36","Chapter 6"],"source_url":"https://oss-data-us.vaquill.ai/v2026.08/us_tn_statutes.parquet","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:26Z","sha256":"946287ceee6ee44ff0beef3d0a5f544e7ad599d51b0105d9b9ab9d952174b7df","source_id":"us-tn","stale":false,"prev":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-36-6-206","next":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-36-6-208"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
