Code Ann. § 38-1-401","heading":"Part definitions","body":"As used in this part, unless the context otherwise requires:\n(1) \"Animal\" means a domesticated living creature or a wild creature previously captured;\n(2) \"Cruelty,\" \"abuse,\" and \"neglect\" mean every act, omission, or neglect whereby unreasonable physical pain, suffering, or death is caused or permitted;\n(3) \"Owner\" means any person who is the legal owner, keeper, harborer, possessor, or the actual custodian of an animal. \"Owner\" includes corporations as well as individuals; and\n(4) \"Reasonable suspicion\" means that it is objectively reasonable for a person to entertain a suspicion, based upon facts, that could cause a reasonable person in a like position, drawing, when appropriate, on the person's training and experience, to suspect animal cruelty, abuse, or neglect.","path":["TN Code","Title 38","Chapter 1"],"source_url":"https://oss-data-us.vaquill.ai/v2026.08/us_tn_statutes.parquet","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:26Z","sha256":"0c0459a666b746b16a4723bc8443855cd12b556e724e99f5ff56a80df96062e3","source_id":"us-tn","stale":false,"prev":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-38-1-306","next":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-38-1-402"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
