Code Ann. § 49-6-4501","heading":"Legislative findings - Safety and civility","body":"The general assembly finds and declares that:\n(1) A safe and civil environment is necessary for students to learn and achieve high academic standards;\n(2) Harassment, intimidation, bullying or cyber-bullying, like other disruptive or violent behavior, is conduct that disrupts a student's ability to learn and a school's ability to educate its students in a safe environment;\n(3) Students learn by example. School administrators, faculty, staff and volunteers who demonstrate appropriate behavior, treating others with civility and respect and refusing to tolerate harassment, intimidation, bullying or cyber-bullying, encourage others to do so as well; and\n(4) The use of telephones, cellular phones or other wireless telecommunication devices, personal digital assistants (PDAs), computers, electronic mail, instant messaging, text messaging, and websites by students in a manner that is safe and secure is essential to a safe and civil learning environment and is necessary for students to successfully use technology.","path":["TN Code","Title 49","Chapter 6"],"source_url":"https://oss-data-us.vaquill.ai/v2026.08/us_tn_statutes.parquet","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:26Z","sha256":"01c95c6b32be81c7dab69836a43a0ba66b0dfb40d4bedc71da68ad7c12e33662","source_id":"us-tn","stale":false,"prev":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-49-6-4404","next":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-49-6-4502"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
