Code Ann. § 56-7-2702","heading":"Limitations on insurance cancellation - Genetic testing prohibited - Individual consent required - Exceptions","body":"(a) A life insurance provider shall not cancel insurance coverage for an individual or a family member of an individual based solely on the individual's or family member's genetic information.\n(b) A life insurance provider shall not request or require an individual to whom the insurer provides life insurance coverage, or an individual who applies for life insurance coverage, to take a genetic test as a precondition of insurability, and shall not require the complete genome sequencing of an individual's DNA.\n(c) A life insurance provider shall not access sensitive medical information, including the genetic data of an individual, without first obtaining the individual's signed, written consent.\n(d) This section does not prevent a life insurance provider from requesting or obtaining existing health information for underwriting, including genetic information contained within an individual's medical record.","path":["TN Code","Title 56","Chapter 7"],"source_url":"https://oss-data-us.vaquill.ai/v2026.08/us_tn_statutes.parquet","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:26Z","sha256":"8ecd472e07f49c27960fe3404fbd44bd1582768592619947dacc1c14a89986bf","source_id":"us-tn","stale":false,"prev":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-56-7-2701","next":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-56-7-2703"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
