Code Ann. § 6-54-131","heading":"Actively serving county governing members prohibited from serving on a municipal body within the county during the members term - Exceptions","body":"(a) Notwithstanding another law or private act to the contrary, and upon approval under subsection (c), a member of the governing body of a municipality shall not simultaneously serve as a member of the governing body of any county in which the municipality is located during the member's term of office.\n(b) Notwithstanding subsection (a), a member of the governing body of a municipality simultaneously serving on the governing body of a county on April 22, 2024, may serve out the remainder of the member's terms of office.\n(c) This section applies to a municipality that is located, in whole or in part, in a county with a population of more than two hundred thousand (200,000), according to the 2020 or a subsequent federal census, and that approves this section by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the entire governing body of the municipality.\n(d) As used in this section, \"municipality\" means an incorporated city or town.","path":["TN Code","Title 6","Chapter 54"],"source_url":"https://oss-data-us.vaquill.ai/v2026.08/us_tn_statutes.parquet","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:26Z","sha256":"9b46a23e37566b88bdb8d6c8075dcfe4e04e4ad93fd0b673d1afdad06cacd86a","source_id":"us-tn","stale":false,"prev":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-6-54-130","next":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-6-54-132"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
