Code Ann. § 65-6-202","heading":"Part definitions","body":"For the purpose of this part, the following definitions will govern:\n(1) \"Height\" of a freight car is the distance between the top of the rail and the top of the running board;\n(2) \"Overhead clearance\" is the vertical distance between the two (2) rails from the level of the top of the highest rail to a structure or obstruction above on tangent track and from the mean level of the two (2) rails on curved track;\n(3) \"Side\" of a freight car is that part or appurtenance of the car at the maximum distance measured at right angles from the center line of the car;\n(4) \"Side clearance\" is the shortest distance from the center line of track to a structure or obstruction at the side of track up to a distance of fifteen feet (15') and six inches (6\") from the top of the rail; and\n(5) \"Width\" of a freight car is twice the distance from the center line to the side of a car as defined in this section.","path":["TN Code","Title 65","Chapter 6"],"source_url":"https://oss-data-us.vaquill.ai/v2026.08/us_tn_statutes.parquet","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:26Z","sha256":"82fcc4346d927eecb659b9ec953509780b5796147070dcb0f7025d171842a78b","source_id":"us-tn","stale":false,"prev":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-65-6-201","next":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-65-6-203"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
