Code Ann. § 68-11-269","heading":"Comprehensive infection control program — Admission or transfer of patients.","body":"(a) Health care facilities, as part of their infection control program, shall perform a local risk assessment for methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in the facility. In those facilities where current interventions have not resulted in reduction in MRSA infections, implementation of a comprehensive program to reduce such infections should occur.\n(b) A health care facility's comprehensive infection control program may include, but is not limited to:\n(1) Implementation of a hand hygiene education and monitoring program;\n(2) The use of contact precautions for patients colonized or infected with MRSA;\n(3) The effective cleaning of patient care equipment and the patients' environment;\n(4) Consideration of use of active surveillance testing for high risk groups identified through a facility's local risk assessment to identify persons colonized with MRSA;\n(5) Feedback of surveillance data to key stakeholders, including senior facility leadership, physicians, nursing staff and other clinicians;\n(6) Education of healthcare personnel about epidemiologically significant organisms; and\n(7) Education of patients and families about prevention of healthcare-associated infections.\n(c) Hospitals, nursing homes and other health care facilities should communicate MRSA status of patients transferred or admitted to other facilities; however, facilities should not delay the admission or transfer of patients colonized with MRSA.","path":["Title 68 Health, Safety and Environmental Protection","Chapter 11 Health Facilities and Resources","Part 2 Regulation of Health and Related Facilities"],"source_url":"https://archive.org/download/gov.tn.tca/release76.2021.05.21/gov.tn.tca.title.68.odt","current_through":"2021-05-21","vintage":"Tennessee Code Release 76 (2021-05), retrieved 2026-09-17","retrieved_at":"2026-09-17T21:57:36Z","sha256":"240210091804758ce5f2f2c18551a8e82cbc42f508d909c49fdd33cd2faa6980","source_id":"us-tn","stale":true,"prev":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-68-11-268","next":"us-tn/tenn.-code-ann.-68-11-270"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
