Education Code § 21.034","heading":"TERMS; VACANCY.","body":"(a) The board members appointed by the governor hold office for staggered terms of six years with the terms of one-third of the members expiring on February 1 of each odd-numbered year. A member appointed by the commissioner of education or the commissioner of higher education serves at the will of the appointing commissioner.\n(b) In the event of a vacancy during a term of a member appointed by the governor, the governor shall appoint a replacement who meets the qualifications of the vacated office to fill the unexpired portion of the term.\n(c) A vacancy arises if a member appointed by the governor no longer qualifies for the office to which the member was appointed.\nAdded by Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 260, Sec. 1, eff.
