Government Code § 2053.001","heading":"DEFINITIONS.","body":"In this chapter:\n(1) \"State agency\" means a board, commission, department, office, or other agency, except a university system or institution of higher education as defined by Section 61.003, Education Code, that:\n(A) is in the executive branch of state government;\n(B) has statewide authority; and\n(C) is created by the constitution or by statute.\n(2) \"Functional area\" means one of the following areas of concern to state government:\n(A) natural resources;\n(B) health and human resources;\n(C) education;\n(D) economic development and transportation;\n(E) agriculture;\n(F) public protection;\n(G) consumer protection;\n(H) work force; or\n(I) any other area in which the governor appoints an interagency planning council under Section 772.003.\nAdded by Acts 1993, 73rd Leg., ch. 268, Sec. 1, eff.
