Government Code § 405.004","heading":"DEPUTY SECRETARY OF STATE.","body":"(a) The secretary of state shall appoint a deputy secretary of state who shall:\n(1) perform the duties prescribed by law for the secretary of state when the secretary of state is absent or unable to act; and\n(2) perform other duties required by the secretary of state.\n(b) The deputy secretary of state serves at the pleasure of the secretary of state.\nActs 1987, 70th Leg., ch. 147, Sec. 1, eff.
