Government Code § 614.041","heading":"COLLECTING DEBT FOR ANOTHER; OFFENSE.","body":"(a) A peace officer commits an offense if the officer:\n(1) accepts for collection or undertakes the collection of a claim for debt for another, unless the officer acts under a law that prescribes the duties of the officer; or\n(2) accepts compensation not prescribed by law for accepting for collection or undertaking the collection of a claim for debt for another.\n(b) An offense under Subsection (a) is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not less than $200 or more than $500.\n(c) In addition to the fine, the peace officer may be removed from office.\nAdded by Acts 1993, 73rd Leg., ch. 268, Sec. 1, eff.
