Insurance Code § 847.004","heading":"APPLICABILITY OF CHAPTER.","body":"This chapter applies only to an entity that issues a health benefit plan and that holds a license or certificate of authority issued by the commissioner and provides benefits for medical or surgical expenses incurred as a result of a health condition, accident, or sickness, including:\n(1) an insurance company;\n(2) a group hospital service corporation operating under Chapter 842;\n(3) a health maintenance organization operating under Chapter 843;\n(4) an approved nonprofit health corporation that holds a certificate of authority issued by the commissioner under Chapter 844;\n(5) a multiple employer welfare arrangement that holds a certificate of authority under Chapter 846;\n(6) a stipulated premium company operating under Chapter 884;\n(7) a fraternal benefit society operating under Chapter 885; or\n(8) a reciprocal exchange operating under Chapter 942.\nAdded by Acts 2005, 79th Leg., Ch. 789 (S.B. 155), Sec. 1, eff.
