Local Government Code § 22.031","heading":"COMPOSITION OF GOVERNING BODY; WARD SYSTEM OPTIONAL.","body":"(a) If the municipality is divided into wards, the governing body of the municipality consists of a mayor who is elected by the qualified voters of the municipality and of two aldermen from each ward who are elected by the qualified voters of the ward.\n(b) If the municipality is not divided into wards, the governing body consists of a mayor and five aldermen who are elected by the qualified voters of the municipality, and the provisions of this subchapter relating to proceedings in a ward apply to the whole municipality.\nActs 1987, 70th Leg., ch. 149, Sec. 1, eff.
