Transportation Code § 521.274","heading":"RENEWAL BY MAIL OR ELECTRONIC MEANS.","body":"(a) The department by rule may provide that the holder of a driver's license may renew the license by mail, by telephone, over the Internet, or by other electronic means.\n(b) A rule adopted under this section:\n(1) may prescribe eligibility standards for renewal under this section;\n(2) may not permit a person subject to the registration requirements under Chapter 62, Code of Criminal Procedure, to register by mail or electronic means;\n(3) may not permit renewal by mail or electronic means of a driver's license of a person who is 79 years of age or older; and\n(4) must allow for the renewal of a driver's license by electronic means, regardless of when the license expires, of:\n(A) a person who:\n(i) is on active duty in the armed forces of the United States; and\n(ii) is absent from the state; and\n(B) the spouse or dependent child of a person described by Paragraph (A).\nActs 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, Sec. 1, eff.
