{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-10-8-65","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 10-8-65","heading":"Regulation of dogs -- Service animals permitted.","body":"(1) Subject to Section 18-2-101, a municipality may:\n(a) license, tax, regulate, or prohibit the keeping of dogs; and\n(b) authorize the destruction, sale, or other disposal of a dog if the dog is at large contrary to ordinance.\n(2)\n(a) As used in this Subsection (2):\n(i) \"Retired service animal\" means a dog that:\n(A) at one time was a service animal for the current owner; and\n(B) no longer provides service animal services for the owner because of the dog's age or other factors limiting the dog's service capability.\n(ii) \"Service animal\" means a dog that:\n(A) is used by a law enforcement agency;\n(B) is specially trained or is in training for law enforcement work; and\n(C) assists a law enforcement agency in the performance of law enforcement duties.\n(b) If a municipality adopts a limit as to the number of dogs a person may keep, the municipality shall allow a person to keep a service animal, a retired service animal, or both in addition to that limit.","path":["Title 10 Utah Municipal Code","Chapter 10-8 Powers and Duties of Municipalities"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title10/Chapter8/10-8-S65.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"739551d49268dc30ca40400c17950b8a0a6e4dade061bc2de877580d378d8058","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-10-8-63","next":"us-ut/utah-code-10-8-66"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
