{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-13-1b-401","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 13-1b-401","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this part:\n(1) \"Healthcare practitioner\" means an individual licensed in a regulated healthcare occupation.\n(2)\n(a) \"Innovation\" means an upgrade in technology that the office determines has the potential to augment the ability of a healthcare practitioner to provide a patient:\n(i) better access to healthcare;\n(ii) better health outcomes; or\n(iii) lower healthcare costs.\n(b) \"Innovation\" does not include an upgrade in technology that solely functions to provide advice or treatment to a patient without an interaction between a healthcare practitioner and patient.\n(3) \"Regulated healthcare occupation\" means a regulated occupation where licensees of the regulated occupation are primarily engaged in healthcare.\n(4) \"Requestor\" means:\n(a) a legislator; or\n(b) a representative of:\n(i) an entity that employs healthcare practitioners;\n(ii) an institution of higher education that provides training to prospective and current healthcare practitioners; or\n(iii) a professional group of healthcare practitioners.\n(5) \"Scope of practice review\" means a review that the office conducts to determine whether to recommend that a regulated healthcare occupation should incorporate an innovation into the regulated healthcare occupation's practice in a way that would expand the scope of the regulated healthcare occupation's license.\n(6) \"Upgrade in technology\" means an addition or change to:\n(a) a medical apparatus;\n(b) a medical appliance;\n(c) artificial intelligence;\n(d) a medical device;\n(e) medical equipment;\n(f) a medical implant;\n(g) a medical implement;\n(h) a medical tool; or\n(i) any other technology the office determines has the potential for a healthcare practitioner to use in the healthcare practitioner's practice.","path":["Title 13 Commerce and Trade","Chapter 13-1b Office of Professional Licensure Review","Part 13-1b-4 Scope Of Practice Review"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title13/Chapter1b/13-1b-S401.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"88d68248c9945a8b4eca802607074262c475ed1e55df10dec485d5f165f0c8d3","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-13-1b-304","next":"us-ut/utah-code-13-1b-402"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
