{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-13-49-102","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 13-49-102","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this chapter:\n(1) \"Client\" means a person who receives services from or enters into an agreement to receive services from an immigration consultant.\n(2) \"Compensation\" means anything of economic value that a person pays, loans, grants, gives, donates, or transfers to another person, directly or indirectly, for or in consideration of:\n(a) services;\n(b) personal or real property; or\n(c) another thing of value.\n(3) \"Division\" means the Division of Consumer Protection established in Section 13-2-102.\n(4) \"Immigration consultant\" means an individual who provides nonlegal assistance or advice on an immigration matter including:\n(a) completing a document a federal or state agency provides, but not advising a person as to the person's answers on the document;\n(b) translating a person's answer to a question posed in a document a federal or state agency provides;\n(c) securing for a person supporting documents, such as a birth certificate, that may be necessary to complete a document a federal or state agency provides;\n(d) submitting a completed document on a person's behalf and at the person's request to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services; or\n(e) for compensation, referring a person to another person who could undertake legal representation activities in an immigration matter.\n(5) \"Immigration matter\" means a proceeding, filing, or action affecting the immigration or citizenship status of a person that arises under:\n(a) immigration and naturalization law;\n(b) executive order or presidential proclamation; or\n(c) action of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, the United States Department of State, or the United States Department of Labor.","path":["Title 13 Commerce and Trade","Chapter 13-49 Immigration Consultants Registration Act","Part 13-49-1 General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title13/Chapter49/13-49-S102.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"58363d5093f27feebf8195c6b25c97468067895b5f654637d96a7ee68bedd557","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-13-48a-307","next":"us-ut/utah-code-13-49-201"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
