{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-13-71-202","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 13-71-202","heading":"Requirements for Utah minor account holders.","body":"A social media company shall, for Utah minor account holders on the social media service:\n(1) set default privacy settings to prioritize maximum privacy, including settings that:\n(a) restrict the visibility of a Utah minor account holder's account to only connected accounts;\n(b) limit the Utah minor account holder's ability to share content to only connected accounts;\n(c) restrict any data collection and sale of data from a Utah minor account holder's account that is not required for core functioning of the social media service;\n(d) disable search engine indexing of Utah minor account holder profiles;\n(e) restrict a Utah minor account holder's direct messaging capabilities to only allow direct messaging to connected accounts; and\n(f) allow a Utah minor account holder to download a file with all information associated with the Utah minor account holder's account;\n(2) implement and maintain reasonable security measures, including data encryption, to protect the confidentiality, security, and integrity of personal information collected from a Utah minor account holder;\n(3) provide an easily accessible and understandable notice that:\n(a) describes any information the social media company collects from a Utah minor account holder; and\n(b) explains how the information may be used or disclosed;\n(4) upon request of a Utah minor account holder:\n(a) delete the personal information of the Utah minor account holder, unless the information is required to be retained under Section 13-61-203, or a different provision of state or federal law; and\n(b) remove any information or material the Utah minor account holder made publicly available through the social media service; and\n(5) disable the following features that prolong user engagement:\n(a) autoplay functions that continuously play content without user interaction;\n(b) scroll or pagination that loads additional content as long as the user continues scrolling; and\n(c) push notifications prompting repeated user engagement.","path":["Title 13 Commerce and Trade","Chapter 13-71 Utah Minor Protection in Social Media Act","Part 13-71-2 General Requirements"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title13/Chapter71/13-71-S202.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"8157e05e0664f0cbe6b733508ef0a3aedc8b0d85dca048ed7f5846cc4f6886e7","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-13-71-201","next":"us-ut/utah-code-13-71-203"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
