{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-13-76-202","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 13-76-202","heading":"Developer requirements.","body":"(1) Beginning May 6, 2027, a developer shall:\n(a) verify through the app store's data sharing methods:\n(i) the age category data of account holders located in the state; and\n(ii) for a minor account, whether verifiable parental consent has been obtained;\n(b) notify app store providers of a significant change to the app; and\n(c) request age category data or parental consent:\n(i) at the time an account holder:\n(A) downloads an app;\n(B) purchases an app; or\n(C) launches a pre-installed application for the first time;\n(ii) when implementing a significant change to the app; or\n(iii) to comply with applicable laws or regulations.\n(2) Beginning May 6, 2027, a developer may request age category data:\n(a) no more than once during each 12-month period to verify:\n(i) accuracy of age category data associated with an account holder; or\n(ii) continued account use within the verified age category;\n(b) when there is reasonable suspicion of:\n(i) account transfer; or\n(ii) misuse outside the verified age category; or\n(c) at the time an account holder creates a new account with the developer.\n(3)\n(a) Beginning May 6, 2027, when initially implementing any developer-created safety-related features or defaults, a developer shall use the lowest age category indicated by:\n(i) age verification data provided by an app store provider; or\n(ii) age data independently collected by the developer.\n(b) Subsection (3)(a) does not prohibit a developer from allowing a parent to customize age-related restrictions, safety-related features, or content settings for individual users within a minor account after the initial defaults described in Subsection (3)(a) are set.\n(4) Beginning May 6, 2027, a developer may not:\n(a) enforce a contract or terms of service against a minor unless the developer has verified through the app store's data sharing methods that verifiable parental consent has been obtained;\n(b) knowingly misrepresent any information in the parental consent disclosure; or\n(c) share age category data with any person.\n(5) Beginning May 6, 2027, a developer may only use age category data received through the app store's data sharing methods to:\n(a) enforce any developer-created age-related restrictions;\n(b) ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations; or\n(c) implement any developer-created safety-related features or defaults.\n(6) Beginning May 6, 2027, a developer may request that an app store provider prevent minor accounts from downloading or purchasing the developer's app.","path":["Title 13 Commerce and Trade","Chapter 13-76 App Store Accountability Act","Part 13-76-2 App Store Provider and Developer Requirements"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title13/Chapter76/13-76-S202.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"c7fd7e3dc29416f81ffd62a9699ed5d496cde1b2a95e5c59c28e37af2f63bce4","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-13-76-201","next":"us-ut/utah-code-13-76-401"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
