{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-13-77-101","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 13-77-101","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this chapter:\n(1) \"Artificial intelligence technology\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 13-72-101.\n(2) \"Consumer transaction\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 13-11-3.\n(3) \"Division\" means the Division of Consumer Protection created in Section 13-2-102.\n(4) \"Generative artificial intelligence\" means an artificial intelligence technology system that:\n(a) is trained on data;\n(b) is designed to simulate human conversation with a consumer through one or more of the following:\n(i) text;\n(ii) audio; or\n(iii) visual communication; and\n(c) generates non-scripted outputs similar to outputs created by a human, with limited or no human oversight.\n(5) \"High-risk artificial intelligence interaction\" means an interaction with generative artificial intelligence that involves:\n(a) the collection of sensitive personal information, including:\n(i) health data;\n(ii) financial data; or\n(iii) biometric data;\n(b) the provision of personalized recommendations, advice, or information that could reasonably be relied upon to make significant personal decisions, including the provision of:\n(i) financial advice or services;\n(ii) legal advice or services;\n(iii) medical advice or services; or\n(iv) mental health advice or services; or\n(c) other applications as defined by division rule.\n(6) \"License\" means a state-granted authorization for an individual to engage in a specified occupation:\n(a) based on the individual meeting personal qualifications established under state law; and\n(b) that is required before the individual may lawfully engage in the occupation for compensation.\n(7) \"Office\" means the Office of Artificial Intelligence Policy created in Section 13-72-201.\n(8) \"Regulated occupation\" means an occupation that:\n(a) is regulated by the Department of Commerce; and\n(b) requires an individual to obtain a license or state certification to practice the occupation.\n(9) \"State certification\" means a state-granted authorization that:\n(a) permits an individual to use the term \"state certified\" as part of a designated title related to a specified occupation:\n(i) based on the individual meeting personal qualifications established under state law; and\n(ii) where state law prohibits a noncertified individual from using the term \"state certified\" as part of a designated title; and\n(b) does not prohibit a noncertified individual from engaging in the occupation for compensation.\n(10) \"Supplier\" means the same as that term is defined in Section 13-11-3.","path":["Title 13 Commerce and Trade","Chapter 13-77 Generative Artificial Intelligence — Consumer Disclosures and Enforcement","Part 13-77-1 General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title13/Chapter77/13-77-S101.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"e02ae675dd5b3d3512cd58c378d8a9b8cc4316078972c0aaf76e207a9547aca9","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-13-76-404","next":"us-ut/utah-code-13-77-102"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
