{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-17-68-602","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 17-68-602","heading":"Ethical duties of civil counsel -- County is client.","body":"(1)\n(a) An attorney acting as civil counsel under this chapter represents an organization as a client in accordance with Rules of Professional Conduct, Rule 1.13.\n(b) The county is the client organization described in Subsection (1)(a).\n(2) The attorney:\n(a) does not represent a county commission, county agency, county board, county council, county officer, or county employee;\n(b) counsels with the county regarding civil matters; and\n(c) receives direction from the county through the county elected officers in accordance with the officers' duties and powers in accordance with law.\n(3) Notwithstanding Subsection (2)(a), the attorney may represent an employee named as a party in litigation:\n(a) with the approval of the county executive; and\n(b) if permitted by law and the Rules of Professional Conduct.","path":["Title 17 Counties","Chapter 17-68 County and District Attorney","Part 17-68-6 Counsel for Civil Matters"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title17/Chapter68/17-68-S602.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"4f06147bbc2b183c4d0eef363d88b884473d3b3c136066c0b79c91081c40bf2f","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-17-68-601","next":"us-ut/utah-code-17-68-603"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
