{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-17-70-511","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 17-70-511","heading":"County ethics commission -- Complaints charging violations -- Procedure.","body":"(1) A county may establish by ordinance an ethics commission to review a complaint, except as provided in Subsection (3), against a county officer or county employee subject to this part for a violation of a provision of this part.\n(2)\n(a) Except as provided in Subsection (3), a person filing a complaint for a violation of this part shall file the complaint:\n(i) with the county ethics commission, if the county has established a county ethics commission in accordance with Subsection (1); or\n(ii) with the Political Subdivisions Ethics Review Commission established in accordance with Title 63A, Chapter 15, Political Subdivisions Ethics Review Commission, if the county has not established a county ethics commission.\n(b) A county that receives a complaint described in Subsection (2)(a) may:\n(i) accept the complaint if the county has established a county ethics commission in accordance with Subsection (1); or\n(ii) forward the complaint to the Political Subdivisions Ethics Review Commission established in Section 63A-15-201:\n(A) regardless of whether the county has established a county ethics commission; or\n(B) if the county has not established a county ethics commission.\n(3) Any complaint against an individual who is under the merit system, charging the individual with a violation of this part, shall be filed and processed in accordance with the provisions of the merit system.","path":["Title 17 Counties","Chapter 17-70 County Clerk","Part 17-70-5 Disclosure Duties Applicable to All County Officers"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title17/Chapter70/17-70-S511.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"8664e81ee77ecd8b22dbef13d1d3e9e0348ae4c24386efbf26ec436e0d3222b3","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-17-70-510","next":"us-ut/utah-code-17-71-101"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
