{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-17-71-307","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 17-71-307","heading":"Prohibited acts.","body":"(1)\n(a) Upon acceptance of an instrument entitled to be recorded, the county recorder may not:\n(i) record the instrument in any manner other than the manner required by this chapter;\n(ii) alter, change, obliterate, or insert any new matter in any instrument of record; or\n(iii) remove the instrument from the county recorder's records.\n(b) In accordance with Section 17-71-406, a county recorder may redact personal information from a copy of an originally recorded instrument.\n(2) A county recorder does not violate this section by:\n(a) denying access to:\n(i) an instrument of record that has been classified as private under Section 63G-2-302;\n(ii) a portion of an instrument of record that has been classified as private under Section 63G-2-302; or\n(iii) subject to Section 17-71-406, an originally recorded instrument of record for which a redacted copy exists and is accessible under Section 17-71-406; or\n(b) placing an endorsement, reference, or other note on a document in the course of the county recorder's work.","path":["Title 17 Counties","Chapter 17-71 County Recorder","Part 17-71-3 Powers, Duties, and Prohibitions"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title17/Chapter71/17-71-S307.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"1a685be9cfc2b59e38f07612d7303526d435426af530d5649667130ce4c27834","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-17-71-306","next":"us-ut/utah-code-17-71-401"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
