{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-17-71-401","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 17-71-401","heading":"Recording procedures -- Endorsements of entry number required on documents.","body":"(1) When a document is accepted by the county recorder's office for recording, the county recorder shall:\n(a) endorse upon the first page of the document the relevant information described in Section 17-71-302; and\n(b) record the document during office hours in the order it was accepted.\n(2) A county recorder shall place an entry number or a book and page reference on each page of a document that the county recorder accepts for recording only if the original document or a copy of the document is kept as a public record under Section 17-71-404.\n(3)\n(a) A county recorder may endorse each document that the county recorder accepts for recording with a book and page reference.\n(b) If a county recorder elects not to endorse a document with a book and page reference, the book and page reference may be omitted:\n(i) in each index required by statute; and\n(ii) on each document presented for recording that is required to recite recording data.\n(4) Subject to Section 17-71-404, the county recorder shall return the document to the person that the county recorder considers appropriate.","path":["Title 17 Counties","Chapter 17-71 County Recorder","Part 17-71-4 General Recording Provisions"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title17/Chapter71/17-71-S401.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"7d6372a3ab88890a16df5b01000f712548239ccface46ed1b47c1c097f385e68","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-17-71-307","next":"us-ut/utah-code-17-71-402"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
