{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-17-76-212","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 17-76-212","heading":"Temporary layoffs -- Reemployment register.","body":"(1) A peace officer may be temporarily laid off:\n(a) when the appointing authority determines it is necessary because of lack of funds or work; and\n(b) with the commission's approval.\n(2) A layoff described in Subsection (1) shall be made according to the lowest rating of the peace officers of the class of position affected, calculated upon seniority under a method prescribed by the commission.\n(3) An individual serving under temporary or emergency appointment shall be laid off before any merit system officer.\n(4) A merit system officer who is laid off shall be placed upon a reemployment register to be re-employed in the inverse order in which the merit system officer is laid off, which reemployment register shall take precedence over all eligible registers.","path":["Title 17 Counties","Chapter 17-76 County Emergency Personnel Management","Part 17-76-2 Deputy Sheriff Merit System"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title17/Chapter76/17-76-S212.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"72a3dd66adc4a5e1739fe4671bc9262265f1a36e3c7963e8330fda4297e7e688","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-17-76-211","next":"us-ut/utah-code-17-76-213"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
