{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-20a-1-106","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 20A-1-106","heading":"Duties of a clerk -- Prohibited action.","body":"(1) As used in this section, \"clerk\" means an election officer other than the lieutenant governor.\n(2) A clerk shall:\n(a) comply with all of the following in relation to elections:\n(i) federal and state law;\n(ii) federal and state rules; and\n(iii) the policies and direction of the lieutenant governor; and\n(b) diligently learn and become familiar with the law, rules, policies, and direction described in Subsection (2)(a).\n(3) A clerk may not alter election procedures or processes to favor, or discriminate against, the following with respect to an election that the clerk is involved in administering:\n(a) a candidate;\n(b) an individual seeking candidacy;\n(c) a ballot measure; or\n(d) a proposed ballot measure.","path":["Title 20A Election Code","Chapter 20A-1 General Provisions","Part 20A-1-1 Elections: General Provisions and Election Oversight"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title20A/Chapter1/20A-1-S106.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"61d9acbc518cc156a0e2ce19db44cb3883675e05a460aa405c6ec2e7b5c91dd8","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-20a-1-105","next":"us-ut/utah-code-20a-1-107"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
