{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-20a-3a-202.5","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 20A-3a-202.5","heading":"Receiving a ballot by mail -- Making a request -- Termination or expiration of a request -- Renewing a request.","body":"(1) As used in this section, \"request to receive a ballot by mail\" means to make a request as described in Subsection (2).\n(2) An individual may request to receive a ballot by mail by:\n(a) making the request on a voter registration form;\n(b) making the request when the individual applies for or renews the individual's driver license or state identification card;\n(c) making the request via the electronic system described in Section 20A-2-206; or\n(d) making the request when the voter votes in person.\n(3) An election officer shall, when mailing ballots to voters under Section 20A-3a-202, mail a ballot to each registered voter who:\n(a) for an election held before January 1, 2029, is an active voter, unless the voter requests to stop receiving a ballot by mail; or\n(b) except as provided in Subsection (4), for an election held on or after January 1, 2029:\n(i) is an active voter; and\n(ii) has, in accordance with Subsection (2), made a request to receive a ballot by mail.\n(4) For an election held on or after January 1, 2029, an election officer may not mail a ballot to an individual who:\n(a) following the individual's most recent request to receive a ballot by mail:\n(i) requests to stop receiving ballots by mail; or\n(ii) does not vote in an election during a period that includes two consecutive regular general elections; or\n(b) has not, within eight years before the day on which the election officer mails the bulk of the ballots for an election, made a request to receive a ballot by mail.\n(5) This section may not be applied in a manner that conflicts with Chapter 16, Uniform Military and Overseas Voters Act.","path":["Title 20A Election Code","Chapter 20A-3a Voting","Part 20A-3a-2 Voting Procedures"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title20A/Chapter3a/20A-3a-S202.5.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"d55610604d51515bf2e9180ca425e17b7d9040aca373a8f8eb702d4d9262c951","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-20a-3a-202","next":"us-ut/utah-code-20a-3a-203"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
