{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-20a-5-401.1","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 20A-5-401.1","heading":"Voting instructions.","body":"(1) Each election officer shall:\n(a) print instructions for voters;\n(b) ensure that the instructions are printed in English, and any other language required under the Voting Rights Act of 1965, as amended, in large clear type; and\n(c) ensure that the instructions inform voters:\n(i) about how to obtain, and how to return, ballots for voting;\n(ii) about special political party affiliation requirements for voting in a regular primary election or presidential primary election;\n(iii) about how to prepare ballots cast at a polling place for deposit in the ballot box;\n(iv) about how to prepare a mailed ballot for return;\n(v) about how to record write-in votes;\n(vi) about how to obtain a new ballot in the place of one spoiled by accident or mistake;\n(vii) about how to obtain assistance in marking ballots;\n(viii) about obtaining a new ballot if the voter's ballot is defaced;\n(ix) that identification marks or the spoiling or defacing of a ballot will make it invalid;\n(x) about how to obtain and vote a provisional ballot;\n(xi) about whom to contact to report election fraud;\n(xii) about applicable federal and state laws regarding:\n(A) voting rights and the appropriate official to contact if the voter alleges that the voter's rights have been violated; and\n(B) prohibitions on acts of fraud and misrepresentation;\n(xiii) about procedures governing mail-in registrants and first-time voters; and\n(xiv) about the date of the election and the hours that the polls are open on election day.\n(2) Each election officer shall:\n(a) provide the election judges of each voting precinct with sufficient instruction cards to instruct voters in the preparation of the voters' ballots; and\n(b) direct the election judges to post:\n(i) general voting instructions in each voting booth;\n(ii) at least three instruction cards at other locations in the polling place; and\n(iii) at least one sample ballot at the polling place.","path":["Title 20A Election Code","Chapter 20A-5 Election Administration","Part 20A-5-4 Election Officer's Duties"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title20A/Chapter5/20A-5-S401.1.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"1d7adcfdad4e60d68cd2b37fe2414ef3991ebf117f89d280068527acd9fe9a3f","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-20a-5-401","next":"us-ut/utah-code-20a-5-401.2"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
