{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-20a-7-102","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 20A-7-102","heading":"Initiatives and referenda authorized -- Restrictions.","body":"By following the procedures and requirements of this chapter, Utah voters may, subject to the restrictions of Article VI, Sec. 1, Utah Constitution and this chapter:\n(1) initiate any desired legislation and cause it to be submitted to:\n(a) the Legislature or to a vote of the people for approval or rejection if it is a proposed state law; or\n(b) a local legislative body or to a vote of the people if it is a local law;\n(2) require any law passed by the Legislature, except those laws passed by a two-thirds vote of the members elected to each house of the Legislature, to be referred to the voters for their approval or rejection before the law takes effect; and\n(3) require any law or ordinance passed by a local legislative body to be referred to the voters for their approval or rejection before the law takes effect.","path":["Title 20A Election Code","Chapter 20A-7 Issues Submitted to the Voters","Part 20A-7-1 General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title20A/Chapter7/20A-7-S102.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"c5d8ecf0085893f80ef126fd1ddfce46b5f129c4df902f13c76ec2d3217a765e","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-20a-7-101","next":"us-ut/utah-code-20a-7-103"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
