{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-23a-11-203","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 23A-11-203","heading":"Big game baiting prohibited.","body":"(1) As used in this section:\n(a)\n(i) \"Bait\" means intentionally placing food or nutrient substances to manipulate the behavior of wildlife for the purpose of taking or attempting to take big game.\n(ii) \"Bait\" does not include:\n(A) the use of salt, mineral blocks, or other commonly used types of livestock supplements placed in the field by agricultural producers for normal agricultural purposes; or\n(B) standing crops, natural vegetation, harvested croplands, or lands or areas where seeds or grains have been scattered solely as the result of a normal agricultural planting, harvesting, post-harvest manipulation, or normal soil stabilization practice.\n(b) \"Baited area\" means land within a 50-yard radius of the site where bait is placed, including the site where bait is placed.\n(2) Unless authorized by a certificate of registration, a person may not:\n(a) bait big game;\n(b) take big game in a baited area; or\n(c) take big game that has been lured to or is traveling from a baited area.\n(3) The division may only issue a certificate of registration to allow for the baiting of big game if the division determines that baiting is necessary to:\n(a) alleviate substantial big game depredation on cultivated crops; or\n(b) facilitate the removal of deer causing property damage within cities or towns.","path":["Title 23A Wildlife Resources Act","Chapter 23A-11 Big Game","Part 23A-11-2 Limits on Hunting"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title23A/Chapter11/23A-11-S203.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"1648dbd772842416a75f4d42e3d32725c776e02b8ed96e79038759564f5ac984","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-23a-11-202","next":"us-ut/utah-code-23a-11-205"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
