{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-23a-12-102","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 23A-12-102","heading":"Naming conventions for birds.","body":"(1) As used in this section:\n(a) \"English-language name\" means the name:\n(i) assigned to a bird by a naming entity for use by the English-speaking public; and\n(ii) that may differ from the scientific name of the bird.\n(b) \"Naming entity\" means a nationally recognized entity that maintains a list of official English-language names for birds in North America and South America.\n(2)\n(a) The division shall use the English-language name assigned to a bird by a naming entity that was in effect on January 1, 2020, when using an English-language name while engaging in the management of the bird or habitat for the bird.\n(b) Notwithstanding Subsection (2)(a), the division may use an English-language name assigned by a naming entity after January 1, 2020, if before January 1, 2020, there was no English-language name.\n(3) The division shall:\n(a) advocate against the changing of eponymous English-language names for birds; and\n(b) seek the support of national organizations with which the division affiliates to advocate against the changing of eponymous English-language names for birds.","path":["Title 23A Wildlife Resources Act","Chapter 23A-12 Birds in General","Part 23A-12-1 General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title23A/Chapter12/23A-12-S102.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"5fae0aff8199187aef35d90cae7d1601d3bcf60ac21431196912390143497d84","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-23a-12-101","next":"us-ut/utah-code-23a-12-201"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
