{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-26b-1-432","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 26B-1-432","heading":"Newborn Hearing Screening Committee.","body":"(1) There is established the Newborn Hearing Screening Committee.\n(2) The committee shall advise the department on:\n(a) the validity and cost of newborn infant hearing loss testing procedures; and\n(b) rules promulgated by the department to implement this Section 26B-4-319.\n(3) The committee shall be composed of at least 11 members appointed by the executive director, including:\n(a) one representative of the health insurance industry;\n(b) one pediatrician;\n(c) one family practitioner;\n(d) one ear, nose, and throat specialist nominated by the Utah Medical Association;\n(e) two audiologists nominated by the Utah Speech-Language Hearing Association;\n(f) one representative of hospital neonatal nurseries;\n(g) one representative of the Early Intervention Baby Watch Program administered by the department;\n(h) one public health nurse;\n(i) one consumer; and\n(j) the executive director or the executive director's designee.\n(4)\n(a) Of the initial members of the committee, the executive director shall appoint as nearly as possible half to two-year terms and half to four-year terms.\n(b) After the initial appointments described in Subsection (4)(a), appointments shall be for four-year terms except:\n(i) for those members who have been appointed to complete an unexpired term; and\n(ii) as necessary to ensure that as nearly as possible the terms of half the appointments expire every two years.\n(5) A majority of the members constitutes a quorum, and a vote of the majority of the members present constitutes an action of the committee.\n(6) The committee shall appoint a chair from the committee's membership.\n(7) The committee shall meet at least quarterly.\n(8) A member may not receive compensation or benefits for the member's service, but may receive per diem and travel expenses in accordance with:\n(a) Section 63A-3-106;\n(b) Section 63A-3-107; and\n(c) rules made by the Division of Finance pursuant to Sections 63A-3-106 and 63A-3-107.\n(9) The department shall provide staff for the committee.","path":["Title 26B Utah Health and Human Services Code","Chapter 26B-1 Department of Health and Human Services","Part 26B-1-4 Boards, Commissions, Councils, and Advisory Committees"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title26B/Chapter1/26B-1-S432.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"ad07cdbb23ac33939c18d1d0513a5150133ae8e618e89515838b6eb01c6221e8","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-26b-1-430","next":"us-ut/utah-code-26b-1-436"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
