{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-31a-2-215","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 31A-2-215","heading":"Consumer education.","body":"(1) In furtherance of the purposes in Section 31A-1-102, the commissioner may educate consumers about insurance and provide consumer assistance.\n(2) Consumer education may include:\n(a) outreach activities; and\n(b) the production or collection and dissemination of educational materials.\n(3) Consumer assistance may include:\n(a) explaining:\n(i) the terms of a policy;\n(ii) a policy's complaint, grievance, or adverse benefit determination procedure; and\n(iii) the fundamentals of self-advocacy; and\n(b) informal efforts to negotiate a resolution of a dispute between a consumer and a licensee.\n(4)\n(a) Notwithstanding Subsection (3) and Section 31A-2-216, consumer assistance may not include:\n(i) commencing an administrative, judicial, or other proceeding against a licensee to obtain specific relief from the licensee for a specific consumer; or\n(ii) otherwise representing a consumer in any administrative, judicial, or other proceeding.\n(5) Nothing in this section prohibits the commissioner from taking enforcement action for violations under Section 31A-2-308.\n(6) The commissioner may adopt rules necessary to implement the requirements of this section.","path":["Title 31A Insurance Code","Chapter 31A-2 Administration of the Insurance Laws","Part 31A-2-2 Duties and Powers of Commissioner"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title31A/Chapter2/31A-2-S215.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"a85dffe33414c1c24d25d4d4fcb1a5bb2637382e54e6561d9d32820d2e9681ab","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-31a-2-214","next":"us-ut/utah-code-31a-2-216"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
