{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-31a-22-1702","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 31A-22-1702","heading":"Definitions.","body":"Notwithstanding Section 31A-1-301, as used in this part:\n(1) \"Certificate holder\" means a person who:\n(a) requests, obtains, or possesses a certificate of insurance; and\n(b) is not a policyholder.\n(2) \"Certificate of insurance\" means a document that is prepared for or issued to a person who is not a policyholder as evidence of insurance, regardless of how it is titled or described.\n(3) \"Insurer\" means:\n(a) an insurer as defined in Section 31A-1-301; and\n(b) any other person engaged in the business of making insurance or a surety contract.\n(4) \"Person,\" in addition to the definition in Section 31A-1-301, includes:\n(a) to the extent not prohibited by federal law:\n(i) the federal government; or\n(ii) an administrative unit of the federal government;\n(b) the state;\n(c) an administrative unit of the state;\n(d) a political subdivision of the state; or\n(e) an administrative unit of a political subdivision of the state.\n(5) \"Policyholder\" means a person who contracts with a property and casualty insurer for insurance coverage.","path":["Title 31A Insurance Code","Chapter 31A-22 Contracts in Specific Lines","Part 31A-22-17 Property and Casualty Certificate of Insurance Act"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title31A/Chapter22/31A-22-S1702.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"88f736036ca7eb2449b5e6a82fc84cd36b8de9da03de9fede4b17eede3f30e5f","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-31a-22-1701","next":"us-ut/utah-code-31a-22-1703"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
