{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-31a-22-726","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 31A-22-726","heading":"Abortion coverage restriction in health benefit plan and on health insurance exchange.","body":"(1) As used in this section, \"permitted abortion coverage\" means coverage for abortion:\n(a) that is necessary to avert:\n(i) the death of the woman on whom the abortion is performed; or\n(ii) a serious risk of substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function of the woman on whom the abortion is performed;\n(b) of a fetus that has a defect that is documented by a physician or physicians to be uniformly diagnosable and uniformly lethal; or\n(c) where the woman is pregnant as a result of:\n(i) rape, as described in Section 76-5-402;\n(ii) rape of a child, as described in Section 76-5-402.1; or\n(iii) incest, as described in Subsection 76-5-406(2)(j) or Section 76-7-102.\n(2) A person may not offer coverage for an abortion in a health benefit plan, unless the coverage is a type of permitted abortion coverage.\n(3) A person may not offer a health benefit plan that provides coverage for an abortion in a health insurance exchange created under the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, 111 P.L. 148, unless the coverage is a type of permitted abortion coverage.","path":["Title 31A Insurance Code","Chapter 31A-22 Contracts in Specific Lines","Part 31A-22-7 Group Accident and Health Insurance"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title31A/Chapter22/31A-22-S726.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"e1da3e8e75edbe3242b56cbb940029f285ea0fb4aaa69dba7c5ea661d66bad49","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-31a-22-725","next":"us-ut/utah-code-31a-22-727"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
