{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-36-2-2","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 36-2-2","heading":"Salaries and expenses of members -- Compensation of in-session employees.","body":"(1)\n(a) Unless rejected or lowered as provided in Section 36-2-3, beginning in 2001 and in each odd-numbered year after that year, members of the Legislature shall receive a salary equal to the amount recommended by the Legislative Compensation Commission in the last report issued by the commission in the previous even-numbered year.\n(b) Unless rejected or lowered as provided in Section 36-2-3, beginning in 2001 and in each odd-numbered year after that year, members of the Legislature shall receive a salary for attendance at a veto-override, special session, and other authorized legislative meetings equal to the amount recommended by the Legislative Compensation Commission in the last report issued by the commission in the previous even-numbered year.\n(2)\n(a) Unless rejected or lowered as provided in Section 36-2-3, beginning in 2001 and in each odd-numbered year after that year, the president of the Senate and the speaker of the House of Representatives shall receive a salary equal to the amount recommended by the Legislative Compensation Commission in the last report issued by the commission in the previous even-numbered year.\n(b) Beginning in 2001 and in each odd-numbered year after that year, the majority and minority leadership of each chamber shall receive a salary equal to the amount recommended by the Legislative Compensation Commission in the last report issued by the commission in the previous even-numbered year.\n(3) The Legislature shall:\n(a) establish, by joint rule of the Legislature, the expenses of its members; and\n(b) ensure that the rules governing expenses are based upon:\n(i) payment of necessary expenses for attendance during legislative sessions;\n(ii) a mileage allowance; and\n(iii) reimbursement for other expenses involved in the performance of legislative duties.","path":["Title 36 Legislature","Chapter 36-2 Employees and Compensation"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title36/Chapter2/36-2-S2.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"0dbf298e950c4aef621e0647d4b157107b087a0d117cfc238536bcbe1a5bb250","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-36-1-204","next":"us-ut/utah-code-36-2-3"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
