{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-36-2-5","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 36-2-5","heading":"Duties of Legislative Compensation Commission.","body":"(1) The Legislative Compensation Commission shall:\n(a) study and formulate recommendations concerning the salary levels for Utah state legislators;\n(b) base the study and recommendations upon maintaining a citizen Legislature in Utah, but compensating members fairly for their service in order that all individuals would have an opportunity to serve;\n(c) in developing recommendations, consider the salaries of other similar state legislators and other such factors; and\n(d) submit to each member of the Legislature, by January 2nd of each even-numbered year, recommendations:\n(i) concerning changes, if any, which should be made in the salary plan and its administration for state legislators; and\n(ii) include a recitation of the provisions of Section 36-2-3.\n(2) The Legislative Compensation Commission may issue reports subsequent to January 2 of an even-numbered year containing revised salary recommendations, including salary recommendations contingent upon certain action being taken by the Legislature.\n(3) As provided in Subsection 36-2-3(1)(c), in formulating its recommendations, the commission may take into account the amounts received by legislators for legislative expenses, but may not review the propriety of, or recommend amounts for, legislative expenses.","path":["Title 36 Legislature","Chapter 36-2 Employees and Compensation"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title36/Chapter2/36-2-S5.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"303f09d72f84cb1b27b0461ce89c2ab5f77fd85c2b6470603104569583b8d886","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-36-2-4","next":"us-ut/utah-code-36-3-201"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
