{"data":{"id":"us-ut/utah-code-4-39-102","jurisdiction":"us-ut","citation":"Utah Code § 4-39-102","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this chapter:\n(1)\n(a) \"Commingle\" means maintaining animals in a manner in which physical contact among animals could occur.\n(b) \"Commingle\" includes maintaining animals in the same pasture or enclosure.\n(c) \"Commingle\" does not include holding animals:\n(i) at a sale;\n(ii) during transportation;\n(iii) during artificial insemination; or\n(iv) in other circumstances involving limited contact among animals for a short period of time.\n(2) \"Domesticated elk\" means elk of the genus and species cervus elaphus, held in captivity and domestically raised for commercial purposes.\n(3)\n(a) \"Domesticated elk facility\" means a facility where only domesticated elk are raised.\n(b) \"Domesticated elk facility\" includes an elk ranch.\n(4) \"Domesticated elk product\" means any carcass, part of a carcass, hide, meat, meat food product, antlers, or any part of a domesticated elk.\n(5) \"Elk ranch\" means a facility where domesticated elk are harvested through typical hunting methods.\n(6) \"Suspect domesticated elk\" means a domesticated elk for which:\n(a) the state veterinarian has determined that the following suggest that the domesticated elk may be infected with a disease spreading pathogen:\n(i) unofficial test results;\n(ii) laboratory evidence; or\n(iii) clinical signs; and\n(b) official laboratory results for a disease spreading pathogen:\n(i) are inconclusive; or\n(ii) have not been conducted.","path":["Title 4 Utah Agricultural Code","Chapter 4-39 Domesticated Elk Act","Part 4-39-1 General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title4/Chapter39/4-39-S102.html","current_through":"2026 General Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T11:34:33Z","sha256":"e4ddc46990f4efc42fe060cb50a67f57dec7d56fae2c2196bc4895d51b2be025","source_id":"us-ut","stale":false,"prev":"us-ut/utah-code-4-38-501","next":"us-ut/utah-code-4-39-103"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
